In memory with love
Popo, you moved on 5th June 2010 to visit your husband after a long 24 years. Since day 1 I was born, I have been immersed in your teaching. Maybe that is why you instructed me to pass it on.
Please allow me to first thank you for the years of love you have showered onto all of us. Quote Celine Dion's Because You Love Me. "I'm everything I am, because you love me." And the way you love is that you can love us all, unconditionally, without a single tinge of expectation. By all of us, I meant the 31 of us from 3 generations and our friends inclusive. It led me to think, how can I love with such a magnitude..
I would like to dedicate this to the family. For a few days already, I have been feeling sleepy. I now know that she made me rest so I could write this. Somehow from Day 1, I felt Popo tell me she has unfinished business. I only felt her at peace when I told her I will spread what she wanted to say. I will try my best to teach her teachings to all her future generations. And Hainanese too =) I know I am probably in no position to do this, but a promise to her, I will still try my best.
Lesson 1: Communication. Think for them and doors will be open.
So many coincidental things happen during this period. I think it is a way of Popo sending messages to all of us based on our characters. I think even upon death, she has her way of communicating to all her children and grandchildren. I think everyone understands this now, and she hopes that all of us will try us best to communicate our love to one another, the rest will flow.
Lesson 2: Care for each other. Enjoy the spirit of giving.
Day 3, after the promise, I really took the initiative to stop crying and start caring. I started to see Popo in everyone. Then I told Didi (Jere) 'Let's go buy Fried Yam for Popo' & I coaxed Aunt Esther along too. We drove out to buy from her favorite stall. There, Didi bought lunch too, as the fried rice had egg. And Aunt Esther added 'Aga Aga' for Popo's dessert.
At the stall, although I came with the intention to buy only a few pieces, I was suddenly ordering non-stop, adding and adding. [Back of my head I was thinking, the food might be a lil too heaty since everyone had not slept.] But I couldn't stop ordering. On my way back, as I was turning into the carpark, and a quick safety check into the mirror.... as my eyes looked up and left the mirror I went !!!! She was there sitting in the back seat. WITH US!
There and then I realised, what she was trying to let me know. If you truely care for one another from the bottom of your heart, nice things will appear one way or another.
Interestingly, so many of us bought food. All had leftovers. But the Fried Fritters..... they were gone just like in a space of 20mins. Everyone had their share of the food I thought was too heaty.
Lesson 3: Love each and everyone of us. For her blood flows in our veins.
(Interestingly as I typed Lesson 3's heading. I scratched my ear and blood stained my fingers)
Day 4, I was lying on the floor of Popo's living room. I had fell asleep before. Then I woke up, eyes still closed. I thought, ' Popo... Ah Bee is lying here, if you want you could sayang me...' Then at the same moment I completed my sentence in my thoughts, I felt 2 pokes on my arm. I opened my eyes quickly, I saw Cousin Sis Emily. It strucked me. She really is 'sayang-ing' me, through her 'blood'. She asked me to prepare some stuff for the ritual at night. So from this, she wants to let us know her blood flows through all of us. Please love all of us like you love her.
Lesson 4: Patience & Appreciation. Look not at imperfection, but smile upon their grace with love.
She personifies it. Nuff said.

These simple lessons are easily obtained at a small scale. But to achieve it at her level, I think she wants to tell us this needs practice. Through these 5 days, she made us practise it through her own way. It's her wish for this whole united family to move as one. To share the love as one. I think that is why united as one, we got to see the most beautiful sight of a passage to the heavens lit by fire.
Lastly, I wanna say I love you all.... because in loving you all, we seek our chance to love Popo for her Kindness....
